Privacy Policy
How iAMSLP Pulmonary Companion collects, uses, shares, protects, and retains personal information — and the choices available to users.
Overview
Pulmonary Companion is operated by iAMSLP Advanced Medical SLP Clinical Education Services, LLC ("iAMSLP," "we," "us," or "our").
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through the Pulmonary Companion, how we use and share that information, how we protect and retain it, and the choices available to users.
The iAMSLP Pulmonary Companion is designed for professional education and clinical reasoning development. It is not a patient medical record, electronic health record, or clinical documentation system.
Information We Collect
Account Information
- We collect information needed to create, authenticate, and maintain user accounts, which may include:
- Name
- Email address
- Account role
- Profile information
- Avatar, if uploaded
- Account creation and activity timestamps
- Authentication information. If you use an available third-party sign-in option, information necessary to authenticate your account may be exchanged with that provider.
- Passwords are managed through our authentication provider and are not stored by Pulmonary Companion in readable form.
Learning and Progress Information
- We collect information related to educational activity, which may include:
- Lesson and module progress
- Quiz and assessment responses
- Assessment scores
- Completion status
- Certificates
- We use this information to provide learning features, track progress, document completion, and support the educational experience and further application development/advancement.
- Beta participation does not provide continuing-education credit.
Clinical Reasoning Notebook
The Clinical Reasoning Notebook allows users to create and save private educational notes and work through clinical reasoning frameworks.
Notebook entries may contain information entered by the user and are associated with the user's account.
The Notebook is not intended for clinical documentation or storage of protected health information (PHI) or patient-identifiable information.
To help reduce the risk of inadvertently storing identifying information, Pulmonary Companion may use an automated pattern-based screening process when a Notebook entry is saved. If the system identifies text that resembles certain structured identifiers—such as dates of birth, phone numbers, medical-record-number-like information, or similar patterns—the user may receive a warning asking them to review and de-identify the entry before it is stored.
This screening is a limited safeguard and cannot identify every form of PHI or patient-identifiable information. Users remain responsible for reviewing and appropriately de-identifying Notebook content before saving it.
The current screening process does not require Notebook content to be sent to a third-party artificial-intelligence provider.
Ask an Expert
- If you submit a question through "Ask an Expert", we collect information associated with the submission, which may include:
- Your question
- Your name
- Your email address
- Submissions may be viewed by the submitting user and authorized iAMSLP administrators or reviewers responsible for managing the feature.
- "Ask an Expert" is an educational feature. Do not include PHI or patient-identifiable information in a submission.
Beta Surveys and Feedback
- During beta testing or product evaluation, we may collect:
- Satisfaction ratings
- Experience measures
- Feature ratings
- Written feedback
- Product-use feedback
- Purchase-intent responses
- Pricing and market-research responses
- Unless a survey specifically states otherwise, beta survey responses are not anonymous and may be associated with your account.
- We use this information to evaluate the Platform, improve educational content and functionality, understand user needs, and inform future product decisions.
Clinical Pearls
Users may submit educational tips or Clinical Pearls through the Clinical notebook feature.
Clinical Pearls are private while pending review. If approved for publication, they may become visible to other authenticated users.
Users should not submit patient-identifiable information, confidential employer information, proprietary information they are not authorized to share, or content they do not have the right to reproduce or distribute.
Online Presence
The iAMSLP Pulmonary Companion may use presence functionality indicating that a user is currently online.
This functionality may transmit an internal user identifier and online-status information to other authenticated users. It is not intended to display assessment results, survey responses, Notebook content, or Ask an Expert submissions.
Cookies and Technical Information
The iAMSLP Pulmonary Companion currently uses limited technologies necessary to operate the service, including authentication and session technologies and limited first-party cookies.
We do not currently use advertising pixels or behavioral-advertising trackers.
Usage and Product Analytics
- During beta, iAMSLP may collect information about how users interact with the Platform to evaluate usability, engagement, and feature performance. This may include information such as:
- Features, pages, or learning resources accessed
- Frequency and duration of Platform use
- Navigation and interaction patterns
- Feature engagement and completion activity
- Technical performance and error information
- We use this information to understand how the Platform is used, identify usability or technical issues, evaluate which features provide value, and improve the beta experience and future versions of iAMSLP.
- Product analytics are not used for behavioral advertising.
- Hosting, database, and infrastructure providers may generate standard technical and security logs, which may include:
- IP address
- Timestamp
- Browser or device information
- Network request information
How We Use Information
- We may use personal information to:
- Create and authenticate accounts
- Operate, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot Pulmonary Companion
- Deliver educational content and learning tools
- Track learning progress and completion
- Support Clinical Reasoning Notebook functionality
- Process Ask an Expert submissions
- Review and publish approved Clinical Pearls
- Administer beta surveys and feedback
- Evaluate and improve Platform functionality and user experience
- Send account, authentication, and service-related communications
- Prevent misuse or unauthorized activity
- Respond to privacy or security concerns
- Comply with applicable legal obligations
- Protect iAMSLP, the Platform, and its users
- We do not currently sell personal information.
- We do not currently use personal information for behavioral advertising.
User Content and Artificial Intelligence
iAMSLP may use artificial-intelligence tools internally to support research organization, drafting, editing, content development, and other business workflows.
During beta, private user-submitted content is not used to train general-purpose artificial-intelligence models.
User-submitted content is not currently sent to third-party artificial-intelligence providers for processing.
If iAMSLP introduces AI-enabled functionality that processes user-submitted information in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated as appropriate to explain the relevant processing and privacy practices.
Data Sharing and Service Providers
We use third-party providers to operate and support portions of the iAMSLP Pulmonary Companion.
Supabase
- Supabase supports Platform functions that may include:
- Database infrastructure
- Authentication
- File storage
- Application backend services
- Information necessary to provide these services may be processed through Supabase.
Resend
Resend may receive a user's name and email address when necessary to send transactional or Platform-related email communications.
Authentication Services
Authentication infrastructure may process email addresses and related information for account communications such as signup verification, password resets, email changes, and other authentication functions.
YouTube
Some educational content may contain YouTube videos embedded using privacy-enhanced or "nocookie" mode.
When embedded content is loaded or played, YouTube or Google may receive technical information such as IP address, browser or device information, and information about interaction with the embedded content. Use of YouTube is also subject to Google's applicable privacy practices.
Hosting and Infrastructure Providers
Hosting and infrastructure providers may process limited technical information necessary for hosting, network operation, security, troubleshooting, system reliability, and backup or recovery functions where applicable.
Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights
Vercel, our hosting provider, also provides the aggregate web analytics and performance monitoring described under Usage and Product Analytics above (such as page views and Core Web Vitals). This data is cookie-free and reported in aggregate — it is not used to build an individual profile of a specific user.
Other Disclosures
- We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to:
- Comply with applicable law or legal process
- Investigate suspected misuse, fraud, or security incidents
- Enforce our Terms of Use or other agreements
- Protect the rights, property, safety, or security of iAMSLP, Pulmonary Companion, our users, or others
- Support a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar business transaction, subject to applicable privacy obligations
Data Security
- We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.
- Controls may include:
- Authenticated user access
- Database-level access restrictions
- Role-based permissions
- Secure transmission of application traffic
- Restricted administrative access
- Secure handling of application credentials and system secrets
- User-data isolation controls
- No online platform, transmission method, or data-storage system can guarantee absolute security.
- Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their account credentials and using appropriate security practices when accessing Pulmonary Companion.
- If we become aware of a privacy or security incident, we will investigate and take appropriate action, including notification where required by applicable law.
Patient Information and Clinical Confidentiality
- The iAMSLP Pulmonary Companion is an educational platform and is not intended to receive, maintain, or serve as a repository for PHI or identifiable patient information.
- Users must not enter patient-identifiable information into:
- Clinical Reasoning Notebook entries
- Ask an Expert submissions
- Clinical Pearls
- Beta surveys
- Feedback fields
- Other user-generated content
- Patient-identifiable information may include:
- Names
- Dates of birth
- Medical record numbers
- Addresses
- Contact information
- Photographs containing identifying information
- Account or unique identifiers
- Other information that could reasonably identify an individual alone or in combination with other information
- Users are responsible for complying with applicable privacy laws, professional confidentiality obligations, employer policies, and institutional requirements.
- Clinical examples should be appropriately de-identified and limited to information reasonably necessary for the educational purpose.
- Automated screening or warnings provided by the Platform are supplemental safeguards and do not replace the user's responsibility to de-identify information before submission.
Data Retention
- Information associated with an active account generally remains stored while the account exists.
- Pulmonary Companion does not currently apply an automatic routine purge schedule to active account data.
- Users should avoid storing information that is unnecessary for their educational use of the Platform.
- When an account is deleted through the administrative process, associated active application data is designed to be deleted, including applicable:
- Learning progress
- Assessment records
- Certificates
- Clinical Reasoning Notebook entries
- Ask an Expert submissions
- Clinical Pearl submissions
- Notifications
- Beta survey data
- Limited information may remain temporarily in infrastructure backups, security logs, or records retained for legitimate legal, security, fraud-prevention, technical, or disaster-recovery purposes.
- Backup availability, retention periods, and recovery practices may depend on the services and infrastructure plan in use.
Account and Content Deletion
Pulmonary Companion does not currently provide self-service deletion of an entire user account.
Users may request account deletion by contacting support@iamslped.com.
We may need to verify identity before completing a deletion or privacy request.
Once an authorized account deletion is completed, associated active application data is designed to be permanently removed and ordinarily cannot be recovered, subject to the limited retention described above.
Your Privacy Choices
- Depending on applicable law and location, users may have rights regarding their personal information, including the right to request:
- Access
- Correction
- Deletion
- Information about certain uses or disclosures
- We may need to verify identity before completing a request.

Children's Privacy
Pulmonary Companion is intended for professional education and is not directed to children under 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13.
If we learn that such information has been collected in circumstances requiring deletion, we will take appropriate steps to remove it.
International Users
Pulmonary Companion is operated from the United States.
Users accessing the Platform from outside the United States should understand that information may be processed or stored in the United States or other jurisdictions in which our service providers operate.
Additional privacy rights may apply depending on a user's location.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Pulmonary Companion and its features evolve.
The Last Updated date will identify the most recent revision.
If we make material changes to how personal information is collected, used, or disclosed, we may provide additional notice through the Platform, by email, or another appropriate method.
Where required by applicable law, we will obtain appropriate consent before applying materially different uses to previously collected personal information.
